Draw a line on energy bill

As the new home of OSPIRG's environmental work, Environment Oregon can be contacted regarding this article.

Sen. Ron Wyden, D-Ore., deserves applause for standing up against the energy bill that just passed Congress, and which David Sarasohn rightly skewered in his Aug. 3 column, "An energy bill that doesn't see a problem."

We need cars that don't guzzle gas, more renewable power and less dependence on oil. This bill sends us in the opposite direction.
Most shocking to me is that the bill opens up our coast to the oil and gas industries for an inventory of offshore resources. Will they stop at nothing? Oil and gas rigs off the Oregon coast would be a travesty, and we cannot allow it. Now is the time to draw the line in the sand -- from Fort Stevens on the north coast to Brookings on the south. Put the Oregon coast off limits to drilling.
