As the new home of OSPIRG's environmental work, Environment Oregon can be contacted regarding this article.Oregon has a long history of forward thinking on issues of sustainability.
So
it is extremely disheartening to see that the Oregon Senate has
approved a Department of Environmental Quality budget that prohibits
DEQ from "adopting or enforcing California's stricter vehicle emissions
standards" ("Senate votes to keep DEQ from lowering car emissions,"
July 29).

budget is a leap in the wrong direction, rejecting an opportunity for
Oregon to once again lead the country toward cleaner air, more
efficient cars and less reliance on fossil fuels.
