Protect The Oregon Coast

What's New

We’re calling on Oregon leaders to establish regon’s first network of marine reserves and marine protected areas to create a legacy of preservation for future generations.

Marine reserves are scientifically proven to help increase fish populations, revitalize marine habitats, and nurture seabirds and other wildlife.

Background

Standing up for our amazing coast
as the ocean faces growing threats

The Oregon coast is an amazing place, whether you’re hiking a rocky beach or visiting for a family vacation. An array of underwater habitats and creatures thrive just offshore. From rocky reefs to kelp forests, from sea cucumbers to the 250 gray whales that summer in Oregon every year, Oregon’s ocean is a rich natural resource.

Unfortunately, our ocean faces an array of threats, including the decline of certain fish populations from overfishing, loss of habitat due to coastal development, invasive species and toxic pollution.

We’re calling on Oregon leaders to establish Oregon’s first network of marine reserves and marine protected areas to create a legacy of preservation for future generations.

Marine reserves will boost ocean life

Even though we have state parks up and down the coast, Oregon doesn’t have fully protected areas in our ocean. Oregon is currently the only West Coast state without protected marine areas.

Marine reserves are scientifically proven to help increase fish populations, revitalize marine habitats, and nurture seabirds and other wildlife.
