Through the Alliance, chefs and restaurateurs are calling attention to the importance of bees to our food supply, the dramatic die-off of bee populations, and the need to protect our pollinators. As the Trump administration considers weakening federal air quality and global warming emissions standards, air pollution remains a threat to public health. Our new report found that 2.4 million people in the greater Portland area experienced 37 days of degraded air quality in 2016, increasing the risk of premature death, asthma attacks and other adverse health impacts.
Lead contamination in our schools is more pervasive than previously thought, according to water testing data from 20 states published in a national interactive map by Environment America and U.S. PIRG today. As schools begin summer break, the groups urge public officials to take swift action to Get the Lead Out of schools’ drinking water.
