 2009 Victory - Environment Oregon helped expanded metropolitan-based planning tool for reducing greenhouse gases from transportation to the regions of Salem, Corvallis, Medford, and Bend.

Portland Passes a Better Bag Ban

By October 2013, Portland will be plastic-bag free--a policy that will have big payoffs for the Pacific Ocean. Environment Oregon delivered over 3,000 petitions of support for a better bag ban, and helped enlist the support of dozens of businesses.  Oregonians use approximately 1.7 billion plastic bags each year, and too many of them end up as litter in our ocean. Today, there are 100 million tons of trash in the North Pacific Gyre.

We helped win the single biggest action our country has ever taken on climate

Under the newly announced Clean Power Plan, gas and coal power plants will pollute 32 percent less and clean energy sources such as wind and solar will meet much more of the nation’s electricity needs. Environment Oregon is proud of the role we’ve played to galvanize public support for this historic plan. With continued commitment from President Obama and state leaders, and strong backing from the American people, this will mark a giant shift toward the 100 percent clean energy reality that the climate crisis demands and future generations deserve.

We helped ban offshore drilling through 2020

2010 Victory - Oil and gas drilling threaten the natural beauty of Oregon's coast and contribute to global warming. In 2010 we worked with fisherman, coastal leaders, and environmental champions, to extend our ban on offshore drilling for another ten years.
